COMMUNICATION STRATEGY & DESIGN
This project transformed an in-person cultural competency education program into a comprehensive digital training experience for medical practitioners. Designed to support doctors in navigating conversations about sexual health with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, the program was developed into six interactive modules. Video-based scenarios offered multiple narrative pathways, enabling participants to explore responses and reflect on their decision-making. A final certification module provided a structured pathway for completion.
In my role I led the creative direction of the visual design of the website, including naming, narrative structure and overall content design, and collaborated with a UX developer who led the site’s wireframe and structure. This work was undertaken in partnership with a theatre practitioner-researcher who led scripting and participatory story research, a migrant resource centre, members of Western Australian migrant communities, and health researchers from Curtin University, who codesigned the cultural training, alongside representatives from the Government of Western Australia Department of Health.
The storytelling resulted in a narrative experience that guided participants to question their own cultural biases and navigate conversations about sexual health.
The outcome was a cohesive, integrated digital platform that combined research, storytelling, and design to support effective health communication and cultural competency.
